Lehigh Valley Homebrewers, in consultation with the multicultural affairs department of Lehigh University, has selected POWER Lehigh Valley's End Mass Incarceration initiative as our charity for the Black is Beautiful brewing collaboration.

 

Pennsylvania has the highest incarceration rate in the Northeast and the fifth largest population of incarcerated people in the US. Black Pennsylvanians are 8.9 times more likely to be incarcerated than while Pennsylvanians and two-thirds of local jail populations are pre-trial, still presumed innocent. This working group’s goal is to reduce the use of jails as the only recourse for offenders, to bring dignity to life behind bars, change hearts and minds through advocacy and education, and build political will for criminal justice reform.
